There are approximately 60 different species of coffee plants in the world. Of these only a small part, just over a third, is marketable for the fruits of the plant.
The area of greatest production is the one near the equator, so coffee is grown in the tropical belt. 70% of the coffee grown in most countries is Arabica and the most renowned variety is Mocha.
One of the factors to evaluate when choosing coffee concerns roasting. Beans roasted to become darker have a stronger flavor, while those roasted with the method that makes them lighter are perfect for an espresso to be consumed for breakfast, perhaps with the addition of milk and cream.
There are many varieties of coffee in the world, but in practice they are reduced to just a few categories.
The most common is certainly arabica. Its grains are quite large and have an elongated and flattened shape. After slow roasting and dark roasting, a mixture is obtained that creates a delicate drink, not very bitter and more intense in aroma and scent. The coffee produced with this variety has an aftertaste of chocolate, caramel, flowers and fruits.
Next we definitely have the robusta. Its caffeine percentage is higher than that of arabic, therefore it is stronger and more bitter. The drink obtained from roasting is full-bodied and creamy, with a spicy and woody aftertaste.
Similar in appearance to Robusta, Excelsa is a coffee with a taste similar to Arabica, but more captivating and valuable, while Iberica is a more fragrant coffee, with a pleasant taste and an aftertaste of nutmeg.
How many types of coffee are there
Once you have chosen your favorite coffee variety, you can indulge yourself by offering your customer a wide range of specialty coffees.
In practice there are various types of coffee: starting from the classic Moroccan, made with coffee, milk foam and cocoa powder, up to the Irish coffee, prepared by adding cane sugar, whiskey and liquid cream to a double coffee, the choice it is truly infinite.
